Susan Cook’s Homepage

Susan Cook was born in London, and raised in London and Surrey, England. It was while at Cambridge University that she met and married a Texan mathematician. Since their marriage their travels have taken them across the Southern and Central United States to Starkville, Mississippi, the home of Mississippi State University, where they have lived for the past seven years.  However, she brings her two girls to England every summer, to escape the sweltering heat and cultivate a British accent!

Susan holds a Ph.D. in English Literature, and has worked as a Special Collections librarian and teacher.  She currently lectures in English Literature and Composition at Mississippi State University.  Her previous publications include academic papers, poetry, and radio commentaries.  She began writing fiction seriously as a response to the culture shock of moving from London to rural America; she continues with the support and inspiration she has found in an eclectic university community. In addition, she is a member of a lay religious order, The Order of the Daughters of the King.

Her special interest is in the Middle Ages.  Writing historical novels enables her to combine her love of literature and history with her background as a researcher.  The Book of Galahad is based on recent theories of the historical King Arthur and influenced by the style of Thomas Malory’s fifteenth century Le Morte D’Arthur.  She is currently finishing a Viking Age novel based on the Sagas of Icelanders, and researching a novel on Dante and Beatrice.
